Your giving ought to create room for you to be in God, to know Him.

Your gifts ought to make room for you to be in Christ, to know Him. The knowledge of Jesus Christ is what your giving is for. It’s an earthly sacrifice for a heavenly gain. It’s an earthly sacrifice because God doesn’t demand this from us, He doesn’t use our currencies, He is in heaven. Hence this should be the motivation to your giving; the knowledge of Him, thus eternal life. We can learn so much from the early church, they sacrificed all their belongings for the hope of being with Christ right here on earth, to know Him.

Now all the believers were together and held all things in common. They sold their possessions and property and distributed the proceeds to all, as anyone had a need.

Acts 2:44 – 45, HCSB

Now the large group of those who believed were of one heart and mind, and no one said that any of his possessions was his own, but instead they held everything in common. And the apostles were giving testimony with great power to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was on all of them. For there was not a needy person among them, because all those who owned lands or houses sold them, brought the proceeds of the things that were sold, and laid them at the apostles’ feet. This was then distributed for each person’s basic needs.

Joseph, a Levite and a Cypriot by birth, the one the apostles called Barnabas, which is translated Son of Encouragement, sold a field he owned, brought the money, and laid it at the apostles’ feet.

Acts 4:32-37, HCSB

They brought the proceeds at the Apostles feet, at the feet of them who had been entrusted with the message of our Lord Jesus Christ. The Apostles were not concerned about anything else other than the knowledge of Christ being firmly grounded in people. They would take care of the people, since it is the people who are heirs of salvation, candidates of heaven, not money, buildings or facilities; these are just to facilitate the people to be in the Lord.

“There is money to be made in the Gospel.” These were God’s words to me about some month ago. “Mm-hmm,” for a minute I was like, “Father, even you!” These were my immediate responses as I listened keenly on what He would say next. He went on to expound on this. Paul once acknowledged that there were people who preached the Gospel for different reasons, even for monetary gain, but He was glad that the Gospel was being taught. Daddy then began reminding me of how the people who manage the different ‘gospel industries’ aren’t necessarily Christians, but are there for the money. People who run these so-called ‘gospel industries’ are firmly aware that people are givers, especially to things of God; we all have a form of godliness inside of us. You and I give or have at one time given; this is what they are banking on. They don’t have the heart of God, which is a heart for the people, a desire for truth to be known among them and a decision made to receive total forgiveness on account of what Jesus has done.

Lets take the example of our media houses. Nowadays, there is a gospel show every Sunday in most stations. They are all trying to outplay each other for viewership. The more people are tuned to your station, the more money you can make from advertisements and the sort. On Saturday’s we have a lot of sports-football, the reggae culture and the likes, with Fridays being jam packed with a lot of hype, club and the party feel. Those who manage these stations aren’t necessarily Christians, these are entrepreneurs who will give people what they want just to make an extra shilling and increase their profits.

I interact with lots of people and at times I get amazed when I find missionaries, Bishops you have gotten the financial niche and their hearts are now turned far from the Gospel. You see, you and I are givers and if you find a missionary who has a story of moving from the Us to  Africa or some of the remote places in the world, who wouldn’t want to give to such.

Jesus once taught from Mathew 6 of where we who are now in existence ought to put our treasures.

“Don’t collect for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal. But collect for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves don’t break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Mathew 6:19 – 21, HCSB

Personally, I have always been a giver. Right from my childhood, I have always maintained a lifestyle of faithful giving to the Lord. Though at the time I wasn’t living a right life in God, the offering plate couldn’t pass by me. I was a faithful giver, but I wasn’t born again. I used to give but didn’t know Christ; I was living in sin.

Your gifts on earth can only make room for you to sit with the kings and queens of this earth. But for you to see and be with the King of Kings, creator of all the Universe, then it will have to be by your connection with His son, Jesus Christ. As an Apostle, I may notice you, your pastors may acknowledge you, friends and family; but for God to recognize you, then it is by a connection with the His Son and the truth about Him.

Your giving ought to make room for you to know the truth, accept it and live it; thus get born again.
